Presented by the Civil Practice and Procedure Committee
Many cartel cases and follow-on civil litigation involve reviewing documents from custodians written in multiple languages and deposing foreign witnesses who do not speak English. These situations pose unique challenges. Our panel of experienced plaintiff and defense attorneys will explore the mechanics of how to search your database for important foreign language documents, how to translate and review those documents in preparation for a deposition, and helpful tips for how to take and defend the deposition, including: how to manage time constraints, hire translators and check translators, and resolve translation issues on the record. We will also discuss techniques for how to take a foreign language deposition remotely.
